Michael Laudrup has moved quickly to identify a replacement for his captain, with more stories emerging over the weekend of a possible switch for Williams, following an injury to Laurent Kocielny.
The Swans are understood to have already made contact with Moreno’s club Espanyol, and are hoping to push the deal through this week.
With the La Liga side desperate for money, Laudrup is confident he can land the player for when and if Williams completes a move to the Emirates.
Swansea are insisting that a deal for their captain needs to be completed before the Premier League season kicks off on August 17, so they have plenty of time to plan ahead.
Wenger is reported to have been interested in Williams for months, but has been put off by the club’s £12million valuation.
The Gunners boss may be forced into a bid for the centre back now however, with Koscielny’s injury potentially leaving Arsenal with just one fit senior centre back for the start of the season.
Should the deal go through, Laudrup sees Moreno as the ideal replacement. The 25-year-old looks ideally suited for the Premier League, and has bags of experience having won 46 caps for Mexico, including representing his country at the 2010 World Cup.
