The Five Key Battles that will decide Leeds vs Derby
One of the biggest matches in the Championship this weekend comes at Elland Road on Friday night when promotion hopefuls Leeds United and Derby County meet.
The hosts are currently situated in the thick of the play-off positions in fifth place – seven points behind Newcastle United in the final automatic promotion spot – and on a five-match unbeaten run in the league, which has included four wins.
Garry Monk’s side were in the bottom three at the end of September after they were beaten at home by Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town, but their form has improved significantly since then and the Whites have won their last four matches at home, without conceding a goal.
Meanwhile, it has been a similar story for the Rams, who have moved up the league table since Steve McClaren’s return as manager earlier in the campaign.
Derby are seventh, just five points behind their opponents on Friday, and went ten matches unbeaten before they lost 3-0 at Norwich in their first fixture of 2017, although they bounced back well by knocking Premier League West Bromwich Albion out of the FA Cup last weekend.
