According to Get French Football News West Brom are interested in signing Bristol City's Famara Diedhiou this summer.

What's the word?

Only this week, Mark Jenkins confirmed that Slaven Bilic would have a competitive budget in order to bring in new faces now he'd been appointed.

That comes despite a reduction in parachute payments and an apparent need to cut back on wages.

Dwight Gayle looks as though he won't return whilst Craig Dawson has also headed for the exit door, joining Watford.

But one new face who could arrive is forward Diedhiou who was in impressive form in the Championship last season for Bristol City, scoring 13.

That's according to Get French Football News who also suggest Cardiff and Huddersfield are in the race to sign the 26-year-old. He could cost between £8m-£10m.

Perfect for the Baggies

West Brom tried the approach last year of keeping their Premier League stars in the side but it didn't pay off as they ultimately lost out on promotion via the play-offs.

So with that in mind, a new direction must be taken in terms of their recruitment and how they build their squad.

This summer, it's essential they bring in faces who are capable of producing the goods in the Championship and for that reason, Diedhiou would be a perfect signing.

He's a proven player in the second tier, netting 13 times in consecutive seasons for the Robins, whilst he also won a colossal 5.6 aerial duels last term.

Albion had capable goal scorers last term but with Gayle not returning, they'll need someone with some attacking nous that has already been there and done it at the level they require.

He may not be the type of player to score over 20 goals a season but he certainly offers a proven and different option to what they already have, standing at 6 ft 2.

It feels likely Jay Rodriguez will be charged with leading the line after it was revealed they wouldn't be surprised if he stayed, so landing the Senegalese striker as a potential back-up option would be shrewd.

If the Baggies are to compete for promotion again, signing proven Championship performers is a canny way of going about things.
