According to Wales Online, former Cardiff City defender Greg Halford is currently training with Championship side West Brom, who may be about to offer him a short-term contract.

The 34-year-old was released by the Bluebirds at the end of last season, with Neil Warnock’s side having secured promotion to the Premier League. Halford did not make this big step up with the Welsh outfit, and has been without a club ever since.

West Brom, meanwhile, were relegated from the top flight last time around, and find themselves in the second tier seeking a route back to the top.

Darren Moore’s side are currently in with a shout of promotion, and have been in prolific form - with more goals scored than any other team in the division. However, the Baggies have all too often looked shaky at the back, and lack sufficient squad depth in that part of the pitch.

The versatile Halford represents an ideal solution to adding extra cover and experience to Moore’s defensive contingent. What’s more, the veteran also has a point to prove.

What do you think, Baggies fans, would you welcome Halford at the Hawthorns?
