According to the Birmingham Mail, West Brom boss Darren Moore has already admitted that preparations are underway to bring new players in during the January transfer window, and the Baggies should look at George Dobson to solve their midfield problem.
After their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, West Brom started their first campaign back in the Championship well and the new front-three of Jay Rodriguez, Dwight Gayle and Harvey Barnes were scoring goals for fun.
Recently though the Baggies have seen their form dip slightly, and Moore’s side now find themselves in seventh place in the table with league leaders Leeds the visitors to the Hawthorns on Saturday.
One of the main problems for Moore has been his central midfield pairing, or specifically who to start alongside Jake Livermore in the middle of the park. Chris Brunt, Gareth Barry and James Morrison have all been tried in the position but all are well into their 30s and struggle to keep up with the pace of the frantic Championship, whilst 20-year-old academy graduate Sam Field is yet to be properly trusted in league games.
A winter move for Dobson from Walsall then could be the best bet to solve the current issue.
Dobson began his youth career with Arsenal before moving to West Ham in 2015. From there he spent the 2016/17 season on loan with his current club Walsall, but the now 20-year-old only signed for The Saddlers on a permanent deal after a brief spell with Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam.
This term, the young Englishman has played every minute of Walsall’s League One campaign and has even captained the side in 14 out of 17 league games.
Dobson was originally a centre-back too so if the Baggies were to make a move he could cover that left-hand side of the back three, where summer signing Kyle Bartley has struggled.
So, West Brom fans, would you like to see Moore make a move for Dobson in January or would you prefer someone that’s tried and tested to be signed? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
