Referee Neil Swarbrick seemed to wrongly send off Gareth McAuley for West Brom after Craig Dawson had committed a foul on Wilfried Bony in today’s Premier League game.
The Manchester City striker was clear on goal when he was tripped by Dawson – legitimising a red card for a clear goal scoring opportunity – but rather than sending of Dawson, Swarbrick instead showed red to McAuley.
It’s unclear whether this sending off could possibly be for something Gareth McAuley said to the referee off the ball but it would seem to be a simple case of mistaken identity.
Things don’t bode well for West Brom who have won none of their seven trips to the Etihad Stadium, drawing the first two and losing the last five in a row.
This is compounded by the fact that Manchester City have won nine and lost none of the last 10 Barclays Premier League games against West Bromwich Albion.
