WBA claim Olsson is not for sale

West Brom defender Jonas OlssonWest Brom manager Steve Clarke has ruled out a January move for defender Jonas Olsson.

The Swede has been linked with QPR recently, with the London club reportedly offering £5m for his services.

This bid was rejected by The Hawthorns-based club, despite rumours of the player having a £4m release clause in his contract, which will be activated this summer.

Clarke is keen to keep hold of the 29-year-old, and stated that under no circumstances will he be leaving the Midlands:

“I can confirm a bid has been turned down and I don’t encourage any more bids, because Jonas is not for sale.” He told Sky Sports.

“I have spoken to Jonas and he says he is loving the football here, he is enjoying the position we are in, and he is looking forward to the rest of the season.

“He will remain a West Brom player and we don’t have to sell anyone. He is not for sale, so there is no figure which is reasonable.”

There are rumours that Olsson is hoping to leave the club to be based in London for personal reasons.

West Brom have enjoyed a bright start to the Premier League season, notching 33 points to occupy seventh position, ahead of Liverpool.

Olsson has been ever-present under Clarke, helping the club to achieve a better defensive record that table-topping Manchester United.
