West Brom target Dieumerci Mbokani’s passport application holds the key to him sealing a dream move to the Premier League.
The Baggies are following the progress of the 27-year-old Anderlecht forward as they weigh up their transfer options for next season.
But the DR Congo international is waiting on a Belgian passport that will not be decided until later on this summer, which could see Steve Clarke move on to other targets.
DR Congo are outside FIFA’s top 70 which makes a work permit application unlikely to succeed so the passport is a key issue in securing the transfer.
Albion loan star Romelu Lukaku believes the ex-Standard Liege forward is now ready to make the move abroad, and be a success, after a previous switch to Monaco didn’t work out.
Lukaku told the Belgian media: “Dieu has won titles in Belgium, now it’s time for something else. West Brom is a good club. They can offer him new challenge.
“It is sometimes said that Dieu must be ‘accompanied’ but guidance is offered at West Brom by good people.” (Daily Express)
Norwich City have been previously linked to Mbokani while Dynamo Kiev are long-term admirers.
