West Bromwich Albion failed to regain their throne atop the Championship table on Wednesday evening after having to settle for a draw at Wigan Athletic.

The Baggies came from behind to salvage a point after Sam Morsy's long-range striker rebounded in off goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to hand the home side the lead in the 50th minute.

Though, less than ten minutes later Albion were handed a gift with an indirect free-kick on the edge of the six-yard box which was duly dispatched by Charlie Austin after a rapid layoff from Jake Livermore.

Slaven Bilic had made several changes to his starting line up with the likes of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana being handed rests.

As a result, the visitors lacked creativity and were abject of ideas - Wigan recorded eight more attempts at goal and even his the woodwork twice so to say West Brom were rather fortuitous would be quite the understatement.

Young defender Nathan Ferguson epitomised their struggles in his natural right-back position.

The 19-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and given his breakthrough season, it has caused plenty of controversies.

Albion have offered him a 20-fold increase on his current deal, but talks have hit a snag, potentially leaving the club with no choice but to make money off him in January.

This wouldn't go down well with supporters as many have been begging Ferguson to stay on social media in recent times.

However, this latest showing won't go down in the record books, and it could show why Bilic should ignore the wishes of the Hawthorns faithful.

Per SofaScore, Ferguson recorded the second-lowest rating (6.4) of any member of the starting XI. He failed to provide an accurate cross all match, lost possession 11 times and won less than 50% of his duels, both on the ground and aerially.

At full-back, Bilic is well equipped, he's able to call on summer signing Darnell Furlong while on the other side he's got Kieran Gibbs and Conor Townsend.

The England U20 international is starting to show why he's not indispensable to this side, and thus, the Baggies should cash in on him in January.
