West Brom eye up Czech star

Tomas-Kalas

Steve Clarke is considering a summer move for Chelsea loanee Tomas Kalas in a bid to strengthen up the West Brom defence.

The Baggies manager and club scout Tony Spearing travelled to Holland last weekend to observe the 19-year-old right back who is on his second season loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem. Clarke has been searching for a replacement right-back for a while after Steven Reid has been plagued with injury issues and Billy Jones hasn’t been able to establish himself in the first team.

Tomas Kalas signed for Chelsea in 2010 as a 17-year-old and they loaned him out to Vitesse in his first season and he signed an extension with the London club last season that will keep him there until 2017. He has made 58 appearances for the Dutch club and it is thought that the Blues would be willing to loan him out again, according to The Daily Mail

The Baggies’ top scorer, Romelu Lukaku, has been on loan from Chelsea this season, but this could provide a problem if they wish to exxtend his stay as it is against Premier League rules to have more than one player on loan from the same club.

Steve Clarke who has ties with Chelsea after previously working there, has built up a good working relationship with the club and he will be hoping this will give him the advantage when it comes to trying to sign the young starlet in the summer.
