West Brom extended their lead at the top of the Championship table on Tuesday evening by clinching their fifth win in six matches.

The Baggies defeated fellow promotion hopefuls Preston North End 2-0 at the Hawthorns to go seven clear of Leeds United ahead of their fixture tonight.

They did so without Slaven Bilic's first-choice midfielder Romaine Sawyers, but you wouldn't have realised his absence as young starlet Rekeem Harper stepped up to the plate.

It was his first league start of the season and fans have been loving it.

Here's what has been said...

"Monsterclass," "fantastic" and "mature" were three words used to describe the teenager's performance while there was also plenty of praise for Bilic for his man-management and coaching of Harper.

Per SofaScore, the academy grad recorded one key pass, had an 83% passing accuracy and even hit the woodwork.

Others noticed how seamless the 19-year-old slotted into Sawyers' role, which should be major encouragement for their next two matches as he has just shown he's more than capable of stepping into his shoes.

So much so that one fan claimed he offered "more swagger" in the role.

There were glowing endorsements about his future too as a further member of the Baggies faithful believed he was a Ray Wilkins in the making while another suggested Harper could become a star.
