West Bromwich Albion failed to regain control of the Championship lead after succumbing to just a draw at the DW Stadium on Wednesday night.

Baggies boss Slaven Bilic surprisingly rung the changes with the likes of Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Hal Robson-Kanu all earning a rest on the substitutes bench.

And they were second best against a struggling Wigan Athletic, who took the lead five minutes after the interval through a huge bit of luck, although it was deserved.

Sam Morsy fired from 35-yards out with the ball rebounding off goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and into his own net.

Albion then had fortune on their side less than ten minutes later when Charlie Austin slammed home an indirect free-kick from six-yards out.

The Croatian boss handed a rare start to Kyle Edwards, his sixth of the season, but it appears that some members of the Baggies faithful believe he's better suited to an impact role despite a goal and an assist in his last two outings.

While other supporters believe it's time to give Chris Willock an opportunity following his performances for the U23 squad this season.

Since the 21-year-old joined the club on loan from Benfica on deadline day, he is yet to make a senior appearance.

Many fans pointed out Edwards' ability as just not good enough with some highlighting his poor range of passing.

One member of the travelling crowd stated that he doesn't rate the academy graduate at all while another lambasted him as 'really poor.'

Now West Brom occupy second place but only on goal difference as the only side to defeat them this season, Leeds United, hold the throne going into the weekend.

Just one point separates the two teams, although they appear to be running away from the rest of the league as Fulham are 11 points behind in third place.
