West Bromwich Albion are hot on the trail of Moreirense’s Algerian international winger Nabil Ghilas – also an Everton target.
The Baggies have been watching the goalscoring exploits of the 23-year-old in Portgual’s top flight this season and are trying to lure him to the Premier League – a “dream destination” according to the player’s agent Romeo Magalhaes.
Everton have been following him for a while and, in Portugal, Sporting and Sporting Braga are also said to be interested. French clubs Marseille and St Etienne have also been linked to the Marseille-born winger, but West Brom’s interest is said to be the hottest at the moment.
A move to the Premier League would be a remarkable achievement for a player who was thrown on the football scrapheap as a youngster and was playing amateur football in France only two seasons ago.
Ghilas’ older brother Kamel, who played for Hull City in the Premier League a few years ago, said: “Nabil is powerful, technically and physically.
“He can play centre forward in England. It also depends on the coach, if they count on you or not. This is also why you should never give up and to work.”
Ghilas has scored 12 top flight goals in Portugal this season, breaking a club goalscoring record for Moreirense, who are battling against relegation.
He was called up to Algeria’s squad for the first time in March but will not need a work permit as he has a French passport.
