West Bromwich Albion's former midfielder Jonathan Greening has tipped his former side to clinch the Championship title this season after comparing them to the 2007/08 side he played in.

What's he said?

After the midweek rung of fixtures, the Baggies currently sit second in the division having struggled to see off Wigan Athletic on Wednesday evening.

Slaven Bilic made a number of changes to his rampant side as they drew 1-1 at the DW Stadium just days after thrashing Swansea City 5-1, thus handing Leeds United the advantage going into this weekend.

Both teams are only separated on goal difference with them setting the early pace by opening up an 11-point gap to third-placed Fulham.

Greening won promotion with West Brom in the 2007/08 season and made a total of 218 appearances at the Hawthorns.

The 40-year-old, who now works in coaching and media, spoke very highly of Albion this week, posting on LinkedIn he said:

Title chances

The Championship is quickly becoming a two-horse race this season with both West Brom and Leeds surging ahead as we approach Christmas.

There's still a long way to go with so many other factors to consider such as injuries and suspensions to key players - or even a deja vu of Harvey Barnes last January, but the early signs are all good.

If they can keep this up, then Albion are surely a shoo-in to achieve promotion as recent history suggests that they will surpass a points total that has been enough to do exactly that in four of the last five seasons.

The Baggies are the only team in the division to lose just one match all season, which will surely stand them in good stead going forward albeit that defeat was to their title rivals, Leeds.
