According to teamTALK, West Brom are ready to battle their former boss and current Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis for Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah, rated at £4.5m by Transfermarkt.

What's the story?

After suffering relegation from the Premier League last season, a number of big names are now threatening to leave West Brom this summer. TeamTALK also report that striker Salomon Rondon is close to joining Newcastle, centre-back Craig Dawson has requested to leave for Burnley and winger Matt Phillips could also leave the Hawthorns, in something of an exodus for boss Darren Moore to deal with.

The West Brom manager has already identified a target to replace Phillips though in the form of Aston Villa's player of the season last year Albert Adomah.

The 30-year-old scored 15 goals and provided seven assists as Villa made the playoff final, eventually losing to Fulham. However, since missing out on promotion and the riches of the Premier League, Villa have been in dire financial trouble and need to sell players to raise the funds to avoid a winding-up order from HMRC.

Adomah could be the perfect signing for Moore to mount a promotion push of his own.

To pastures new?

Tony Pulis and Steve Bruce on the touchline

Unfortunately for Moore and perhaps unsurprisingly, West Brom are not the only club in for the London-born Ghanaian. Middlesbrough, managed by former Baggies boss Tony Pulis, are also looking to take advantage of Villa's situation according to teamTALK.

Adomah spent three years at the Riverside Stadium between 2013 and 2016 but it remains to be seen whether he would prefer a return to his former home or a new challenge in the Midlands, not too far from his current one.

Moore will need to add bodies to his squad to ensure he has enough players to rotate around the busy schedule of the Championship season and Adomah could give them the pace and lethal finishing to fire them back to the Premier League, while his creative ability could be key to Jay Rodriguez hitting at least 20 league goals in 2018/19.
