Having already announced the signing of striker Jack Marriott from Peterborough, Sky Sports have reported that Derby County are also set to conclude a deal for Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn.
Marriott joined Frank Lampard’s Derby this week, following Brentford’s Florian Jozefzoon, Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Liverpool’s Harry Wilson through the door at Pride Park.
Lampard is also looking to add Waghorn to his squad. The 28-year-old netted 16 goals and provided an impressive 13 assists for the Tractor Boys last season, but his arrival would surely spell the end of Matej Vydra’s Derby career.
Last season’s Championship top-scorer has been heavily linked with a move to Leeds this summer, although the Yorkshire Evening Post reported at the start of the month that a deal had fallen through thanks to the player’s wage demands.
With Derby signing two strikers though they will be desperate to get Vydra out the door and another Championship club looking for a striker, West Brom, should attempt to sign him.
With Salomon Rondon linked with a move to Newcastle this summer, West Brom would be left with just Hal Robson-Kanu and Jay Rodriguez as senior strikers.
Boss Darren Moore should look to benefit from Derby’s situation and sign Vydra, who scored 21 goals in 40 Championship games last season and could fire the Baggies back to the Premier League.
Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old also has five goals in 20 appearances for the Czech Republic national side. If Moore could secure his signature it could be the signing of the summer in the Championship.
