West Brom's wantaway starlet Nathan Ferguson has been urged to do what is best for the club by former midfielder Nigel Quashie this week.

What's he said?

As per The Athletic, the 19-year-old was set to leave last month after negotiations with Crystal Palace had reached an advanced stage but the deal quickly collapsed following complications in his medical, meaning a dream £11m move to the Premier League was off.

It's claimed that the young defender would require season-ending surgery, a risk Eagles boss Roy Hodgson was unwilling to take and now he's had to return to the Hawthorns.

Football Insider reported that Ferguson was "hell-bent" on leaving this summer as relationships have reached a boiling point.

Now Quashie, who had a one-year spell in the west Midlands, would like the academy grad to consider what is best. Speaking to Football League World, he said:

"There’s obviously a hiccup between him and the club which is going to determine where his future lies.

"But hopefully his future gets resolved and one thing that West Brom will be doing is what is best for the boy and what is best for the football club.

"Hopefully Nathan will look at the same situation and consider what is best for him and what is best for West Brom.

"One thing that I feel is important for Ferguson is whether he is going to get guaranteed game-time if he leaves.

"When he was suspended, he was brought straight back into the team after serving his ban by Bilic which shows everybody that he is wanted at the club and that he is well loved and well respected."

Any way back?

It's hard to gauge how much of a future Ferguson has at Albion given the fact that he needs surgery on a knee problem that could keep him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Therefore, it wouldn't be a surprise if he has already played his final game at his boyhood club.

Conflicting reports mentioned above hinting towards a sour relationship at the Baggies is hardly going to help anyone either, so as Quashie says, it is now about doing what is best for the club and the player himself.

He may well have aspirations to join a Premier League side ahead of next season, but that's a scenario that could still happen with West Brom four points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Ferguson had been a regular choice when fit under Slaven Bilic, something he isn't guaranteed to get elsewhere.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all of these obscure West Brom players...

He'll have plenty of time to think about his next move, maybe it'll be wise for him to wait and see if Albion are a top-flight team once again first.
