West Brom set to sign £7m-rated striker from city rivals

As reported in an exclusive by The Sun, West Brom are set to spend in the January transfer window and bring Rudy Gestede to The Hawthorns from city rivals Aston Villa.

What’s the word?

West Brom have scored 23 Premier League goals this season, a decent return for a mid-table side, but Tony Pulis is looking to add to his side’s firepower this January and looks to have found the man to do it.

The Sun reckon he’s ready to move for Aston Villa’s striker Rudy Gestede in a £7m move. Pulis is said to be a big fan of the giant striker having him scouted throughout the season.

The paper also say that the move could pave the way for Villa to make a £9m bid for in-form Brentford striker Scott Hogan.

Why Gestede?

The French striker joined Aston Villa from Blackburn Rovers in 2015 but hasn’t been able to recreate the goalscoring form that made him a much coveted player.

Scoring just 10 goals in 38 appearances for Villa, it’s a record that may make West Brom fans uneasy about the signing.

He does have other attributes though, most notably his physical presence. He’s a big target at the front of any attack and could play a key role in bringing West Brom’s other attackers into play around him.

That’s like Pulis’ thinking behind the move, but his fine record at Blackburn does also show he has a nose for goal when he hits his stride.
