According to a report in The Sun newspaper (15/07/18, p59), Cardiff boss Neil Warnock is set to test one of his former clubs with £8m offer for Leeds midfielder Ronaldo Vieira.

What's the story?

England U21 international Vieira has already played 63 Championship matches for Leeds, despite being just 19-years-old. He became a regular starter for the Whites under Garry Monk during the 2016–17 season and won the club's Young Player of the Season award.

Despite a mixed second full season for Leeds, Cardiff are aiming to sign Vieira as they make their return to the Premier League.

After being born in Guinea-Bissau and growing-up in Portugal, Vieira has chosen to represent England at international level as he was educated in the country for over five years. This summer in the Toulon Tournament, which England went on to win, he scored on his U21 debut with a long-range hit in a 4-0 victory over Qatar.

Clearly an extremely promising youngster, West Brom should use their parachute payments from the Premier League to battle Cardiff for Vieira's signature.

An investment

With central midfielders James Morrison and Gareth Barry both in the final years of their contracts, West Brom boss Darren Moore will be keen to bring in a long-term replacement this summer to integrate them into the squad.

Vieira could be the perfect player to partner Jake Livermore in midfield and would offer immense ability to cover ground as well as protection for a back four with his passion for breaking up opposition attacks.

If he continues the upward trajectory of his career he could also make the Baggies a considerable profit if they decide to sell in the future and could be a shrewd investment by Moore for the West Midlands club.
