West Brom should make a move for West Ham's Pedro Obiang if the Hammers are to be successful in their pursuit of another midfielder this month, as Darren Moore looks to add another body to the middle of the park to aid their promotion push.

What's the word, then?

Well, according to the Daily Mail, the Hammers are after another midfielder at the request of Manuel Pellegrini, who is hoping to add some more bodies to his side to bolster their squad for the second half of the season - a few good signings could even see them mount a push for Europe.

The Irons are keeping tabs on Everton's out-of-favour Irishman James McCarthy, with a view to signing the midfielder on loan - the 28-year-old has just 18 months left on his current deal at Goodison Park and is unlikely to renew those terms.

Additionally, Pellegrini is also interested in bringing fellow countryman and former Cardiff star Gary Medel back to the Premier League, so you would expect at least one of his current options to be deemed surplus to requirements in the near future.

Why would West Brom want Obiang?

According to the Daily Mail again, the Baggies are keen on Spurs' Victor Wanyama, but the Kenyan isn't interested in dropping down into the Championship. In that respect, Moore should make a swoop for the Spanish midfielder instead in order to maintain his side's good form this season.

Obiang's place at the London Stadium is under threat following the arrival of Samir Nasri, whilst he will also have to compete with the likes of Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Robert Snodgrass, as well as any potential new signing.

The 26-year-old is similar to Wanyama, as well as McCarthy, in his defensive contribution and his tidiness on the ball, and he would be a far more realistic option than the former Celtic and Southampton colossus and far more attainable than the Everton outcast.
