According to a report by The Sun, Burnley are going to make a club-record £15m bid to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson, and the Baggies should take the money and run.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Sun report that the 29-year-old has been a target for Sean Dyche for years, and he is hoping that his latest offer will tempt the Championship club to sell.

The Sun report that the Lancashire outfit are hoping that the offer of Premier League football will be enough to finally convince the player to move to Turf Moor, given the west Midlands outfit missed out on an immediate return to the top flight having been beaten by Aston Villa in the play-offs.

The report adds that the 29-year-old, who made 45 appearances in all competitions for Albion this season, has come close to joining Burnley on a few occasions previously, according to the same story.

Take the money and run

While he may have been something of a key player for West Brom in recent seasons, the chance to get £15m for a player who has a year left on his contract and wasn't at his best in the Championship this season is almost unthinkable.

West Brom fans will want to cover their ears for the video below...

The club has already suggested that cuts will have to be made as they can't afford to sign Dwight Gayle permanently following his impressive loan spell during the 2018/19 campaign, and receiving that fee for Dawson would certainly be helpful.

Whoever the Baggies' new manager is going to be needs to be smart in the transfer market, and the west Midlands outfit could potentially strengthen three or four positions – including at centre-back – with the money they get for the 29-year-old.

To be honest, aside from losing a player who has been a consistent and largely reliable member of the backline in recent seasons, there aren't really any drawbacks to this deal.
