Wantaway West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie has blasted talk that he wanted to leave Albion for the money in January.
The Nigerian international was embarrassingly turned away from Queens Park Rangers’ stadium after driving there from the Midlands in the hope to secure a move in January.
Deadline Day came and went and Odemwingie was still a West Brom player, although now well and truly out of favour and punished by the club.
Harry Redknapp may well have offered the striker a January move but when it fell through, Baggies fans turned on their striker for wanting to leave, most saying it was down to money.
“I want to address this greed issue now,” he told the Birmingham Mail.
“I was on big money in Russia before I came to Albion. I wanted to achieve a dream playing in the Russian league – what I dreamt as a kid.
“But my main aim was to play in the Premier League and when I moved to Albion I took a pay cut of more than three times what I could have earned.
“I had an offer to sign for Panathinaikos in Greece for a huge amount of money but I have already made enough money for myself. I came from Moscow earning tax-free money.
“Taking these songs every five minutes from West Brom fans ‘you greedy *******’ … I’m already sick of it.”
