Harvey Barnes may have been recalled from his loan spell with West Brom back in January, but a damning stat has been revealed that he’s still been the club’s most creative player three months on.
In a graph displaying the players who have created the highest proportion of high-quality shots for certain teams in the Championship this season, Barnes led the way for the Baggies on 16.451.
The hole left by Barnes. Still Albion’s most creative player this season, despite leaving in mid-January… https://t.co/tveUGHwzYR

This stat has provoked a fair amount of response from the Hawthorns faithful who not only bemoaned the loss of the 21-year-old but picked up on the fact that other stars who have since been injured have also left a hole.
Matty Phillips’ and Kieran Gibbs’ presence was focused on by some fans, who said the former had a strong influence over the team.
Another supporter also claimed that once Barnes left, the formation should have been changed in order to counter his absence.
Was Darren Moore’s sacking unfair? The Pl>ymaker FC squad name which Championship bosses should have gone instead in the video below…
However, one individual thought that West Brom supporters had exaggerated his role, claiming the club were still consistent without him.
In 26 league games for the club, Barnes scored nine and assisted six goals.
Here’s the reaction from Twitter.
It’s the Gibbs/Barnes connection we miss more than Barnes on his own IMO. Phillips also huge influence on attacking play, one of best at this level when fit, I stress the when unfortunately ala Mozza every season ever!

Also underlines that Brunt is still massively integral to the team #wba

That week i think he lost a whole midfield. Barnes, Phillips, Morrison and Livermore four match ban.

Also coincides with the injury-related absence Matt Phillips, our second player on that list. We’ve really missed him too.

Highlights how we’ve missed Gibbs and Phillips recently too

He’s definitely left a hole BUT 21 points from 12 games since he left? 46 points from 26 games while he was here. Equates to 1.75 a game down from 1.76. Couldn’t be any closer to consistent. He was entertaining and did really well but I do think a lot of fans exaggerate his role.

A squad as good as ours should have been set up to be hard to beat once Barnes left and we lost Phillips to injury. It was naive of Big Dave not to have changed the formation and style of play- most of our squad had spent many games under Roy and Pullis being hard to beat.
