According to the Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion have entered the race to sign Charlton Athletic's impressive loan star Conor Gallagher this month.

What's the word?

It is believed that the 19-year-old will cut short his time at the Addicks, where he was expected to be for the duration of the season, resulting in keen interest from Premier League side Burnley as well as Swansea City.

The box-to-box central midfielder has scored six goals and provided two assists in 24 Championship appearances this season whilst also averaging 1.9 tackles and one interception per game, via WhoScored.

Rekeem's regret?

If the Baggies can clinch the young prospect, then it would certainly bring life to their promotion push having suffered in recent weeks, winning just once in their last six matches.

The England U21 international has found the net more than Slaven Bilic's current first-choice duo Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers whilst he can play further afield if need be - say if Matheus Pereira was pushed wide.

Gallagher has certainly mirrored the current Chelsea boss Frank Lampard with similar late runs into the penalty box whilst also contributing defensively.

The Blues legend racked up an impressive feat of scoring ten or more goals in ten straight seasons, and the 19-year-old is on track to start replicating such achievements already.

His arrival, however, wouldn't be positive for everyone as Rekeem Harper would undoubtedly face even more of an uphill battle to get into Bilic's first-team plans.

The young Albion starlet has barely featured this campaign, playing just six minutes in the league and couldn't look any further from breaking into the senior fold - despite signing a contract extension in the summer.

Harper, who is still just 19 years of age, opted to re-sign for the Baggies amidst interest from Juventus and Liverpool - a decision he must now be rueing as he hasn't even been named in a matchday squad since the opening day against Nottingham Forest.

Sawyers and Livermore have even both faced time on the sidelines during that time, so adding a player in his position would surely speak volumes about his immediate future at the club.
