West Brom to offer Hammers reject Premier League lifeline

Striker Carlton ColeWest Brom are preparing a shock move for ex-West Ham striker Carlton Cole, according to reports from The Express.

The 29-year-old is currently a free agent after being released by the Hammers following seven seasons of service at Upton Park.

Many had predicted that the one time Chelsea hit-man would be forced to drop to the Championship in search of regular first-team football, but Baggies coach Steve Clarke is said to be considering offering Cole another shot at the Premier League.

The Midlanders will have to face next season without Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgian teenager having returned to parent club Chelsea after an impressive stint at The Hawthorns.

Clarke is keen to reunite with the man he worked with at West Ham, and sees him as somebody who can add experience and presence to his attacking armoury.

Although Cole endured a tough 2012/13 campaign – managing just two goals – he is still thought of as a perfectly able top tier front-man, and has even attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool during his career.

The seven-time England international would likely jump at the chance to join West Brom, and Clarke will be hopeful that he can help Cole rediscover his form.

Meanwhile, controversial striker Peter Odemwingie may be leaving the club, with Swansea, Cardiff and Crystal Place all thought to be keen.

Does Carlton Cole still have what it takes? And does he deserve another chance?
