According to today's print edition of The Sun newspaper (page 56), West Brom are planning an ambitious and late bid for Queens Park Rangers winger Bright Osayi-Samuel with Slaven Bilic looking to bolster his squad further before deadline day.

What's the word?

It is claimed that the Croatian sees the 22-year-old as the perfect candidate to freshen up Albion's promotion bid as their attacking department has gone stale in recent weeks.

The Baggies haven't won in seven successive league outings and have only scored more than the one goal once during that same run.

On Tuesday evening, they relinquished top spot to nearest rivals Leeds United whilst their 13 point cushion in the automatic places has diminished to just two points.

Bilic will have to battle Premier League side, Burnley, for his signature.

Better than Phillips?

There is no denying that West Brom have suffered badly in the absence of Grady Diangana through injury over the past two months, throw in Matheus Pereira's suspension too, and things don't appear to be getting any better anytime soon.

The club announced the loan signing of Callum Robinson from Sheffield United early on Wednesday morning, a positive step as the frontman can play as a left-winger as well as a striker.

Now Bilic must push to sign Osayi-Samuel as he'd be the perfect candidate to springboard Albion's fortunes back in their favour.

The right-winger was described as "outstanding" by his manager Mark Warburton earlier this season as he went on to also say: "I'm not sure many teams have that blistering pace. As long as he knows how to use it and that's the key for him learning the game. He's working so hard. He's got that sheer pace which terrifies defenders, and when he uses it wisely like he did today, he looks a real handful."

Osayi-Samuel would be an instant upgrade to Matt Phillips too as he has six years on the 28-year-old Scotsman while in the league this season he has averaged far more dribbles per game - a massive 2.8 compared to Phillips' measly 0.8.

Are you a Championship expert? How much did each of these big-money signings cost?

The QPR wide man also earns more fouls by a considerable margin too - an average of 2.1 per game versus 0.3 for the Baggies winger.

Phillips is also hugely out of form as of late, managing just one assist in his last six games whilst he has managed to find the net once in 14 matches despite racking up six goals for the season beforehand (per Transfermarkt).

At the end of December, fans were even quick to label the long-serving ace as "lethargic" and "miles off the pace" which only strengthens the argument that the Baggies could find a player better than him in the role.

When looking for added flair in attack, the young speedster can be exactly what Bilic needs.
