According to the Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion are keen on signing Southampton's struggling striker Che Adams on loan this month, but they face more than one obstacle if they are to do so successfully.

What's the word?

Firstly, it is believed that the 23-year-old's current club are reluctant to let him leave so soon after his summer switch from Birmingham City.

The Baggies would also face competition from their nearest Championship rivals Leeds United as they too are interested in the striker.

Adams is yet to score in the Premier League this season after 15 appearances, and with Danny Ings' new-found rich vein of goalscoring form, his game time could be quickly be diminished.

The 27-year-old has nine goals in his last ten top-flight appearances.

Likelihood?

Albion could do with adding some firepower to bolster their promotion chances, but it is unlikely that the Saints will part ways with their £10.8m-rated forward just yet.

The former Birmingham City ace would be top of the list for most teams in the division after he bagged 22 goals in 46 league games last term for the Midlands outfit.

However, Southampton hold all the cards here and given their apparent reluctance to let him go just yet, it seems as if this is a non-starter.

Slaven Bilic currently has three strikers in his ranks with Hal Robson-Kanu, Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore.

Both the 30-year-old's (HRK and Austin) have failed to kick on from their brief spells of red hot goalscoring form as neither have scored in their last four matches as the Baggies have won just once in their previous six.
