According to Football Insider, West Brom have joined the race to sign Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson after his performances have caught the eye of the scouting network at the west Midlands outfit.

What's the word?

It is believed that the Baggies view him as a target for this month, but they are open to waiting until the summer to clinch him.

Promotion rivals Leeds United and Fulham are also monitoring his situation in Scotland.

The source claims that Slaven Bilic is in the market for a central defender that is capable of playing in the Premier League or at the top end of the Championship table.

It remains to be seen what sort of fee the 27-year-old would command after making a move north for just £3m from Brighton in 2018.

Bilic's biggest need?

Albion's season has taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks as they have only managed to pick up one victory in six attempts, meaning their gap at the top of the table has shrunk to just five points.

Their biggest issue this season has been keeping the ball out of the net, and remarkably, they are yet to keep a clean sheet at home whilst overall they have only managed a shutout in 18% of their matches.

Signing a player of Goldson's calibre would be a big step in eradicating such a problem as he's become Steven Gerrard's most reliable option in the heart of the defence.

The 6 foot 3 centre-back has played 90 minutes in all 36 of his appearances this campaign, including each one of their Europa League matches, where they came up against Feyenoord and Porto. Goldson kept a clean sheet in both of Rangers' home fixtures.

Per WhoScored, the former Brighton man has averaged 82% passing accuracy, makes 6.5 clearances per game and wins 4.7 aerial duels too, which suggests he could well fit Bilic's brand of football which is playing out from the back.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all of these obscure West Brom players...

If West Brom can clinch Goldson, then their title hopes will undoubtedly receive a major boost as just a few clean sheets here and there would have had them even further afield at the top, which is something the 27-year-old can help bring to the side.
