According to 90min, West Bromwich Albion are one of a whole host of clubs chasing Hull City star Jarrod Bowen after his phenomenal start to the season.

Such a move would certainly be a statement of intent from the Baggies who already appear destined for the top-flight.

What's the word?

The report suggests that Newcastle United, managed by Bowen's former boss Steve Bruce, and AFC Bournemouth have entered the race for the midfielder.

But both teams are just two of the quintet of Premier League sides trying to clinch Bowen with Burnley, Brighton and Hove Albion and Sheffield United all linked too.

It's clear that Albion would face some stiff competition to try and secure the 22-year-old, especially given that Hull still have the right to exercise a further year on his current deal.

The last thing Slaven Bilic will want is a bidding war in January when their fate is yet to be sealed.

Statement of intent

However, if the Baggies can pull it off, it would be the statement of the season.

Any form of attacking midfield involving just three of Grady Diangana, Matheus Pereira, Matty Phillips and Bowen is a rather frightening prospect.

The Tigers maestro has consistently proven his quality at Championship level now, seeing his value rise to £9m according to Transfermarkt, having scored 51 goals and assisted nine more over the past three seasons.

Bowen is primarily a right-winger, but his versatile ability to play in the number ten role, as a centre-forward and on the other wing makes him an exciting option and one that draws serious comparisons to Nacer Chadli, who the Baggies splashed out on from Tottenham Hotspur in 2016.

The Belgian played equal matches on either wing at the Hawthorns and was even deployed behind the striker on the odd occasion.

Even though his final season at the club was blighted by injury, he was still a top-quality attacking option after he scored and assisted five apiece during the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.

TotalFootballAnalysis highlight Bowen's key attributes as close control, clinical finishing and premier vision and this would appear to be very much the case with him averaging 1.3 key passes and 3.8 shots per game on top of his 14 goals this year, via WhoScored.
