West Brom have landed their latest signing by agreeing a deal to bring Darnell Furlong to the club from QPR.

What's the word?

Albion hadn't yet added to their defensive ranks properly this summer despite Craig Dawson leaving the club for Watford until Furlong signed on Tuesday afternoon.

The Baggies had signed Semi Ajayi, who has played in defence, although his favoured role appears to be in midfield after being moved there last season at Rotherham.

They'd also bolstered the attack with the signings of Filip Krovinovic and Kenneth Zohore.

But the 23-year-old Furlong has just become one of the latest names to walk through the doors under the Slaven Bilic regime.

Express & Star claimed that the QPR defender was close to signing for Albion in a £1.5m deal from the Baggies' Championship rivals on Monday before the transfer was confirmed a day later.

Summer problem ended

After Mason Holgate returned to Everton following his loan spell it left West Brom with just one option at right-back.

That was Allan Nyom who after spending a period away at Leganes on a temporary deal, looked to be phased out.

The defender had featured in pre-season but it was a real issue and hole in the squad that needed fixing.

So far in the window, West Brom had been linked with moves for both Carl Jenkinson and Sam Byram, although the latter went onto sign for Norwich.

It appears to have been difficult for Albion to recruit in this part of the pitch but one of their major problems looks like it's just been put to rest.

Bilic made calls for the Baggies to get going in the market last week and it appears as though those prayers have been answered.

Furlong will add much-needed depth in defence, boasting the ability to play as a central defender too.

However, it seems likely that he'll be appearing on the right side given their lack of options.

Last term, the QPR man featured 25 times in the second tier, scoring once whilst also winning a colossal 4.7 aerial duels per game.
