Zoltan Gera announces retirement, West Bromwich Albion fans react

Zoltan Gera is a big fan favourite among the West Bromwich Albion following.

The 39-year-old had two spells at the club, the first of which was from 2004 to 2008, and then he returned in 2011 to play another three years at The Hawthorns.

On Thursday, the former Hungary international announced that he will be walking away from the professional game.

During his time at the club, he helped the team achieve promotion to the Premier League in the 2007-08 season, and in his career overall he nabbed nine trophies.

Gera, who scored 29 goals in 171 appearances for the Baggies, spent 22 years playing football.

Now, though, he has opted to begin a new chapter in his life, and plenty of West Brom fans have been singing his praises on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the Baggies are yet to bring in a new signing this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

The club ended up finishing the campaign sitting at the bottom of the table.
