Nigel Adkins’ Charlton Athletic can take a huge step towards securing a play off spot in their third-from-last League One fixture of the season on Saturday.
Following their disappointing 2-2 draw with Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday, the Addicks will be looking to get back to winning ways against Accrington Stanley this afternoon – a result which, if they pull off, could leave them on course for a top-six finish, with the southeast London side having a game in hand on their promotion rivals.
So, will the 56-year-old decide to make any changes to his starting XI from the midweek clash? Here’s our predicted XI, along with the latest team and injury news…
With only Diallang Jaiyesimi being ruled out of the fixture due to injury, Adkins has a number of options to consider ahead of Accrington on Saturday.
However, despite having almost a full squad from which to select, we expect the Charlton boss to make just one change from the team which started against Crewe in the week.
This alternation sees Ian Maatsen – who managed no shots, completed just five passes and lost possession of the ball eight times over his 55 minutes on the pitch last time out – replaced with Conor Washington in a bid to increase the Addicks’ attacking edge in the final third. The 28-year-old’s 11-goal haul this season illustrates the threat he could pose if he is recalled today.
The restof the team should stay the same, with centre-back Ryan Inniss keeping his place on the bench after his recent return from injury, while the midfield three comprises of Alex Gilbey, Ben Watson and Jake Forster-Caskey.
