Chelsea: Fabrizio Romano reveals Christopher Nkunku update

Chelsea haven’t had the best start to their Premier League season and new manager Graham Potter could be set to capitalise on the January transfer window to improve his team’s performances, with a reliable source revealing a major update on a potential target.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea are “really close” to completing a deal for Christopher Nkunku in January.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT:

“Chelsea are careful on this story because they know how the market is working.”

“But Nkunku is really close and the player is happy to join Chelsea, so I think there are very good chances of seeing Nkunku as a new Chelsea player in 2023.”

He’s “unstoppable” right now

The RB Leipzig star has been the centre of attention in the media this week after picking up a leg injury in training with France ahead of the World Cup in Qatar and will now not be able to take part in the prestigious tournament over the next month, which will be a huge blow for the talented player and the French team.

Nkunku has been an outstanding performer in the Bundesliga and if he’d emulated his league form for his national team it would have put France in a fantastic position to cause chaos for opponents.

Over 15 league appearances, the £58m sensation – who was dubbed “unstoppable” by Zach Lowy – has scored 12 goals and created three big chances, as well as averaging 1.8 key passes, 1.3 shots on target and 1.1 dribbles per game.

Not only that, Nkunku ranks in the top 5% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues for shot-creating actions, pass completion and non-penalty goals, while ranking in the top 10% for dribbles completed and progressive passes, proving that he is an elite talent and could be the attacking asset Chelsea are crying out for.

Can Nkunku improve Chelsea's season?

Back at Stamford Bridge, it is no secret that Potter is struggling to establish his best team as the side have slipped to eighth after not winning any of their last five games and recording consecutive defeats in their last three. Therefore, injecting some world-class and unstoppable talent into the team could be one of several solutions for the club over the second half of the campaign.

With that being said, Todd Boehly could save Chelsea’s season by completing a deal for such a prized asset. To put it simply, they must sanction the move when the transfer window reopens in January.
