Chelsea have made a wealth of acquisitions since the summer, a few months after Todd Boehly assumed ownership of the club, and could make the requisite moves to tie up a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo before the close of the January transfer window.

Having parted with approximately £404m since the start of his tenure as owner, Boehly is seemingly not satisfied and is seeking to bolster the centre of the park with a signing that can make a profound and instant impact following the woeful campaign thus far that has seen the club languish in tenth place in the Premier League after 20 matches.

Caicedo is indeed a star of great interest to the Chelsea hierarchy, who, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, could tie up a move over the coming week following the rejection of an initial £55m bid several days ago.

The Seagulls allegedly consider their prized asset as invaluable, but would be tempted to part with the all-encompassing midfielder should their £75m valuation be met.

Potter's own Fabinho

Arriving on the south coast for just £4.5m in January 2021, the 21-year-old initially played a peripheral role, commencing his Premier League tenure in the Seagulls' development squad before taking a loan move with Belgian outfit Beerschot last season, with the season-long spell cut short at the midpoint.

This term, the ace has started 18 matches in the English top-flight, scoring one goal and registering one assist; his average rating of 7.10, as per Sofascore, underlines his meteoric rise, with statistics such as an 88% passing accuracy and remarkable rate of 2.9 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per outing, it is clear that he is blossoming into one of Europe's fiercest young forces.

And as per FBref, the Ecuadorian ace ranks among the top 17% of positional peers across Europe's major leagues for tackles, further illustrating his willingness to get stuck in and break the play at one of the division's standout outfits.

Liverpool's Fabinho is listed as a comparable player to the gem, and while the Reds have been beset with issues this term, the Brazilian anchor remains one of the division's supreme within his sphere.

Having made 198 appearances under Klopp since his £43.7m move from AS Monaco, the 29-year-old has been integral in winning a wealth of major honours, including the Premier League and Champions League, sweeping up attacks and recycling possession to great effect.

And having averaged 2.5 tackles and 1.6 intersections across the entirety of his career, Fabinho is certainly one of the most robust central presences around, something the "serious talent" Caicedo - as lauded by AJ Wood - already looks like he will emulate with resounding success.

Bearing this in mind, and considering the impact that Fabinho made as the anchor at the heart of the Liverpool midfield, indeed winning a host of major honours and integral in the flow of a superlative outfit, Caicedo simply must be signed by Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell.
