An update has emerged on Chelsea and their plans to strengthen their options at the end of the 2022/23 campaign...

What's the talk?

According to 90min, the Blues have been in talks with Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko's representatives since the turn of the year as Graham Potter attempts to improve his team.

The report claims that he is 'increasingly likely' to be a free agent at the end of the season as he is struggling to agree on a fresh contract with the Bundesliga outfit.

It is stated that Newcastle have also been in discussions to land the forward, whilst Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are also keen on the attacker.

Upgrade in attack

Potter could land an upgrade on current number nine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by signing the German international from the ex-Arsenal man's former club.

Aubameyang has struggled badly since making the switch to Stamford Bridge from Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. The Gabonese centre-forward has only found the back of the net once in nine appearances in the Premier League and averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.58.

He has also failed to provide a single assist for his teammates and this shows that he is not contributing much to Chelsea at the top end of the pitch, from a goalscoring or a creative perspective.

Meanwhile, Moukoko has produced six goals and three assists in eight Bundesliga starts, and 14 outings in total, for Dortmund this season.

The 18-year-old, who journalist Pete O'Rourke claimed would be an "exciting" signing for the club, has shown immense promise with his form in the German top-flight at such a young age and he could be a superb addition to Chelsea's team in the short, mid, and long-term.

He has racked up an impressive 153 goals in 149 appearances for Dortmund at senior and youth level combined and these statistics suggest that the forward has the potential to develop into a prolific scorer in the future if the gem can replicate his form in the academy set-up at professional level as he develops his game.

Whilst he could be seen as a long-term signing for the Blues, as he only turned 18 in November 2022, he could also immediately improve Potter's starting XI by coming in and taking Aubemayang's place.

The pair's respective returns at the top end of the pitch this season indicate that Moukoko could offer more in terms of scoring goals and creating them for his teammates, which is why he could be a terrific addition to the club this summer.
