Chelsea have been unrelenting in their spending under new owner Todd Boehly, with an outlay of just over £445m in his eight months at the helm, and are now looking for further reinforcements to return the club to a respectable standing in the Premier League.

What's the word?

The Blues' opulence is on full show, with lavish spending Stamford Bridge since the summer failing to establish cohesion and fluidity so far, with Graham Potter's side currently languishing in tenth place after just six wins from 18 top-flight matches.

However, it seems a matter of when, rather than if, the manager will stabilise the ship, and with the future in mind, PSV Eindhoven's Noni Madueke is being targeted, with The Times previously reporting that Potter is a huge admirer of the forward with a reported €35m (£31m) asking price.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist and Chelsea specialist Simon Phillips has claimed that the west Londoners are indeed in active negotiations for the 20-year-old, with a concrete bid from technical director Christopher Vivell potentially forthcoming.

He said: “I was told that Chelsea are in talks with his agent as well to try and sign him. But he has a bad injury history, and obviously, this is something that Chelsea are concerned about. So, I don’t really know what stage those talks are at right now.”

Imagine him & James

The fitness issues which have plagued Madueke throughout his career so far is an element which could provide a hurdle to overcome, but Chelsea' interest seems fervent enough that such issues do not appear insurmountable.

Injuries have struck the 20-year-old again this season, but with two goals from just four starts, his clinical nature stands tall and strong despite failing to enjoy a prolonged run of fitness.

However, the England U21 international impressed across 35 competitive appearances in 2021/22, scoring nine goals and setting up six more, leaving little doubt over any billing as one of Europe's most prodigious young attacking talents.

As per FBref, the "explosive" winger - as lauded by former PSV midfielder Tommie van de Leegte - ranks remarkably across a wealth of metrics when compared to positional peers across Men's Next 8 Leagues over the past year, featuring in the top 1% for total shots and completed dribbles, and in the 13% for shot-creating actions.

Intriguingly, he is also in the top 1% for rate of expected goals (xG), despite only sitting in the top 24% when it comes to his actual goalscoring proficiency. While this may be met with a degree of concern, his gameplay and approach in the final third is remarkably efficient, and nurturing his clinical touch at Stamford Bridge could breed devastating results across the coming years.

His fortunes would only be bolstered with Reece James behind him on the right flank, with the 23-year-old wing-back a robust and industrious force, exhibiting supreme rounded skills and a blistering strike of a shot, also more than capable with his playmaking abilities.

Over the past season-and-a-half, James has chalked up eight goals and 12 assists from 51 appearances, and with that unique creative dimension from the back and his likelihood to dominate the right flank at Chelsea for many years, an innate bond could be forged between him and Madueke.

Bearing this in mind, the PSV gem could grow into a leading talismanic force in the Premier League across years to come if he returns to England; and with a creative force of James' calibre playing behind him, this prospective partnership could cause nightmares for Chelsea's opposition.
