As revealed by Patrik Schick himself, the Czech Republic international said that he rejected offers from Crystal Palace, Everton, Valencia, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke in order to team up with Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig.
Now, usually this news could be perceived as a negative for Roy Hodgson’s side.
Schick is a forward of impressive pedigree with bundles of time on his side at just 24 years of age.
He was also likened to Zlatan Ibrahimovic by legendary forward Pavel Nedved.
However, in this instance, the south Londoners shouldn’t be too concerned.
Well, despite all of the glowing praise towards Schick, he isn’t actually having a better season than one Crystal Palace striker in Jordan Ayew.
If Hodgson’s men were struggling, then Schick’s rejection of them could be considered a key moment in their season.
However, if you were to look at the graphic below, then you can see why the Eagles shouldn’t fret having missed out on the attacker to RB Leipzig.
Palace’s No.9 only takes 1.6 shots per game compared to Schick’s 2.2 attempts.
The ex-Swansea man also averages more dribbles per game than the RB Leipzig striker, and also contributes more from a defensive aspect with 1.1 tackles per game compared to Schick’s 0.4.
Of course, we are not devaluing the RB Leipzig forward in any way, shape or form – he obviously has some talent seeing as Roma completed a deal that could eventually be worth a huge €42m (£38.45m) in total for his services.
Despite his obvious pedigree though, the Champions League forward’s rejection of Palace has been softened by Ayew’s fine efforts.
