Goals.

It is the one thing Crystal Palace have lacked above all this season. Only Newcastle have managed less than their 26 strikes in the Premier League, with them failing to even score at a rate of a goal a game.

Jordan Ayew has managed eight strikes himself, but after him, Wilfried Zaha and Patrick van Aanholt are the closest for the Eagles - they have managed just three apiece.

Dougie Freedman and the Eagles, though, are planning to rectify that, it seems. According to The Daily Express, they are planning on going back in for Michy Batshuayi, who is currently at Chelsea. Despite him being just a bit-part player for the Blues, though, the Stamford Bridge side were looking for a huge £45m in January.

The Selhurst Park outfit do have history with the Belgium international. He was on loan at the club from January last year until the end of the previous season, and he did a good job. In just 13 appearances, he managed six goals, helping Palace to a comfortable 12th-place finish.

He does have a goalscoring touch. According to Transfermarkt, he has managed 126 goals in 328 appearances throughout his career across all of the clubs he has played for, whilst he also has 16 goals in 29 matches for Belgium. From a pure footballing level, his signature would make plenty of sense.

However, it would still be careless for Freedman to spend anywhere near what was touted last January on one signing. For a start, that is something Palace have never done - their current record is £27m, parted with Christian Benteke, who has just one goal in 20 matches this season - but also because that could destroy their larger transfer plans.

Plenty of recruitment is needed for the Eagles - they have the smallest squad in the top flight - and, although Steve Parish has indicated that funds will be available for Roy Hodgson to spend this summer, that is unlikely to be a fortune. After all, they have spent just over £17m since the start of last season.

Batshuayi is good, and could well be an asset to Palace, but they need much more than just him. The 26-year-old has six goals in 24 games this season - you don't need to spend close to £45m to get that return. Freedman should avoid this deal - he needs to be much more responsible than that.

Meanwhile, Palace continue to track this forward.
