Crystal Palace can solve big problem with Wan-Bissaka

Crystal Palace are reportedly contenders to re-sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan from Manchester United and the full-back could solve a big issue in Patrick Vieira’s squad.

Since the Frenchman arrived as manager at Selhurst Park he has overseen something of a youthful revolution, with exciting talents such as Michael Olise and Marc Guehi replacing ageing stars such as Andros Townsend and Mamadou Sakho.

One area of the squad that perhaps represents the Eagles’ biggest problem is at right-back, as Vieira has just Nathaniel Clyne and Joel Ward to choose from in that position, with both players approaching the end of their careers.

Clyne’s injury problems this season have also left Vieira very limited in who he can select at right-back, so signing a new one should be a priority for the Arsenal legend after the World Cup break.

If reports are to be believed, the Eagles have an excellent chance of signing Wan-Bissaka back from Manchester United on loan, just three and a half years after the defender completed a £50m move to Old Trafford.

Since Erik ten Hag’s arrival in the summer, the 24-year-old has found first-team opportunities extremely hard to come by, with Diego Dalot moving ahead of him as the first-choice right back for the Red Devils.

Should Palace re-sign Wan-Bissaka?

Wan-Bissaka has featured in just four minutes of action for United this season in all competitions, which emphasises that he is well and truly surplus to requirements in the Dutchman’s squad.

Although the young right-back has come under a lot of criticism for his attacking output during his time at Manchester United, he has actually averaged above a 7/10 rating from WhoScored in two of his three seasons at the club, but it seems as if Ten Hag is desperate to get rid, as suggestions in the summer claimed he was now worth as little as £20m.

Considering the full-backs in Vieira’s side are primarily concerned with protecting their own goal rather than going forward, Wan-Bissaka could be an excellent addition to his side, as there is no doubting his talent in one-on-one defending.

Jamie Carragher previously described him as “the best one-on-one defender for a full-back in the world“, while talkSPORT journalist Dave O’Grady labelled him an “unstoppable force“.

Crystal Palace beat Sheffield United in their first game of 2021, but what was the score?

Therefore, signing Wan-Bissaka back on loan makes a lot of sense for Vieira and could see him fix a big issue by strengthening a position where his side looks weak this season, while also opening the door to a permanent return to Selhurst Park, when the Manchester United man could surely step up as the long-term replacement for Ward and Clyne.
