Crystal Palace rescued a late point against Manchester United on Wednesday night to arrest their woeful recent run of form.

With the game having just reached injury time, Michael Olise stepped up to curl a wonderful free-kick in off the bar to halt United's winning run.

Bruno Fernandes had handed the in-form visitors the lead moments before half-time and the game looked to be heading United's way as they controlled proceedings at Selhurst Park, but Olise's moment of magic sent Palace fans home happy.

It could have been even better for Patrick Vieira's side had Wilfried Zaha not been denied by a last-ditch Aaron Wan-Bissaka tackle but the Eagles are now eight points clear of the relegation places.

One man who disappointed in the draw at Selhurst Park was Jean-Philippe Mateta, as the Frenchman was handed a rare start in attack alongside Odsonne Edouard.

The former Mainz striker has struggled for game time this season, making just three starts and 12 substitute appearances in the top flight, contributing just one goal and no assists in that time.

It was easy to see why he has been limited to so few starts as he struggled to impose himself on the game against United, before being substituted just before the hour mark.

As per Sofascore, the 25-year-old would earn a disappointing 6.4/10 rating for his performance, with only Zaha (6.4) rated as poorly of the Palace players to start the game.

During his time on the pitch, Mateta would manage just 26 touches and 11 accurate passes, both of which were fewer than the 35 touches and 17 passes contributed by goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

The French forward would also lose possession on ten occasions, registering one shot on target, no successful dribbles and no key passes, so it was another anonymous display on Wednesday.

Palace would have blanked in yet another game had it not been for Olise's wonder goal and considering Mateta's less-than-impressive form so far this campaign, Vieira should consider bringing in a better replacement this month if he wants to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.
