Crystal Palace: Adaramola could be their next Mitchell

Crystal Palace‘s academy has been something of a full-back factory in recent years and Tayo Adaramola could be the next top talent on the production line.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was the first notable example of a full-back to establish himself in Palace’s first team having progressed from the academy, impressing with the Eagles as a youngster before his £50m move to Old Trafford.

Tyrick Mitchell has done similar on the left-hand-side, earning an England call-up after his impressive performances last season which saw him feature 36 times in the Premier League for Patrick Vieira’s side.

These performances saw the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all linked with the 23-year-old, with Palace likely to demand a big fee if he were to leave Selhurst Park any time soon.

Fortunately for Vieira, the Eagles could have a ready-made replacement for Mitchell in 18-year-old academy star Tayo Adaramola.

Can Adaramola be Palace's next Mitchell?

The teenage full-back has been a regular in Palace’s academy sides in recent seasons, contributing three goals and 11 assists in 56 combined appearances for the youth teams, while he also made two appearances for the senior side in the FA Cup last season.

He was sent on loan to Coventry City in the Championship during the summer and has made one appearance for the Sky Blues so far this season in the League Cup, and Vieira will be keeping a close eye on his progress there.

The French manager was full of praise for Adaramola after his appearance against Hartlepool United last season.

He said: “He is a young player so full of energy. He likes to go forward and has been doing well with the academy. This was the right time to give him a couple of minutes. He was close to scoring his first goal.

“Overall, he is a part of those young players where, if we work well with them and they are committed to the work ethic that we want to put into place, they will have a chance to fulfil their potential.”

Crystal Palace beat Sheffield United in their first game of 2021, but what was the score?

Thus, if Adaramola can get regular first-team football in the Championship this season, then there seems little reason why he can’t compete with Mitchell, and perhaps replace him in Palace’s side.

The future is certainly bright for this attack-minded left-back who like the man ahead of him at Selhurst Park, has a wonderful youthful exuberance to his play.
