Crystal Palace loanee could break into Chelsea's first-team squad if he continues to impress at Selhurst Park, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

What's the word?

The highly-rated 21-year-old turned down the opportunity to join Leeds United in the summer, instead opting for the Eagles on a 12-month deal in order to continue his development.

Gallagher's arrival in south London was lauded by the club's supporters after an impressive 2020/21 with West Bromwich Albion saw him bag two goals and provide two assists despite their eventual relegation from the Premier League.

And the England U21 international has been in similarly standout form for Palace in the opening weeks of the current campaign, leading Barclay to believe that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is set to reward the youngster with an opportunity at Stamford Bridge upon his return.

The Sun reporter told GIVEMESPORT"He's such a good player, and I think he's genuinely got a chance of making it at Chelsea if he carries on like this when he goes back. He has been brilliant."

Palace fans will be concerned

News that Gallagher could be awarded an opportunity to shine in west London next term will leave large sections of Palace fans feeling concerned, given his importance to Patrick Vieira's charges.

In just eight appearances for the capital club, the box-to-box dynamo has already established himself as a firm fan's favourite thanks to his full-blooded displays in the centre of the pitch.

Barclay recently claimed that it would take up to £40m to prize Gallagher away from his boyhood club despite him never making a senior appearance for the two-time European champions, largely down to his current contract still having four years left to run.

It leaves Vieira facing a tough dilemma next summer as the French tactician attempts to complete the overhaul of his first-team squad, and it remains to be seen whether Gallagher will become a Palace player on a permanent basis. Sadly, this report suggests he'll be in a different part of London again next term.
