Matt Woosnam has suggested that Max Meyer may be allowed to leave Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window, on The Athletic.

What did he say?

With there being no Premier League football on at the moment, attention has turned to the next transfer window among some Palace fans.

Their side currently sits 11th in the Premier League table, just six points behind fifth-placed Manchester United, so the feeling will be that the right decisions in the market could help them progress even further as a club.

Woosnam was asked about who could be sold, and after discussing Patrick van Aanholt, he suggested another player that Roy Hodgson may let go of: "Max Meyer will most likely be allowed to leave. Despite his relative lack of games, he is sure to have suitors. It just hasn’t worked out in this system for the German, but Palace seem to have found a balance in that midfield recently."

A bad fit

As mentioned by Woosnam, things really haven't gone to plan for Meyer since he arrived at Selhurst Park.

Looking specifically at this season, he has made just eight starts and seven substitute appearances across all competitions, failing to register a single goal or assist in that time.

Considering he is meant to be a creative talent, it says a lot that the 24-year-old averages just 0.1 key passes and 0.4 completed dribbles per Premier League game this term.

Rated at £9m by Transfermarkt, he has worked hard, as indicated by the fact he makes 1.2 tackles on average, but things just don't seem to have worked out for the German, with Hodgson struggling to find a way to fit him into his system.

The hope from this point will be that he is able to find another club where he can settle in and make his mark for them - something he has failed to do at Palace.

Meanwhile, a Palace player posted on Instagram after the Premier League's suspension was confirmed.
