Who is this obscure former Palace player?

The news led to a number of Palace supporters speculating who could take McCarthy’s position in the team moving forward.

However, on Tuesday afternoon, Palace’s official Twitter account posted an image of the Republic of Ireland international in “full training”.

As a result, it seems likely that the 29-year-old will be available for this weekend’s key clash with Watford, who picked up a huge three points against the runaway league leaders Liverpool last time out.

How has McCarthy performed this season?

The midfielder has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles, picking up six yellow cards in the process.
