Patrick Vieira's decision to send Crystal Palace youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan to Charlton Athletic looks to have been a masterclass, as the teenage winger continues to star in League One.

The 19-year-old produced some incredible form in the Premier League 2 last season, contributing a remarkable 18 goals and five assists in just 25 appearances.

This earned him a call-up to the senior side, as he made two appearances in the top flight towards the end of the season, which suggested that he could be on the fringes of Vieira's squad this season.

However, the French manager took the bold decision to send him to League One and he has been hugely impressive during his time with Charlton thus far.

Rak-Sakyi already has two goals and one assist in just four league appearances for the Addicks, which suggests that he is having no trouble adapting to the demands of senior football.

Charlton manager Ben Garner was full of praise for the teenage winger after he scored on his debut in a 5-1 thrashing of Plymouth Argyle.

He said:

“It was a great debut for Jes and he is only going to get better. I think we’ve all seen tonight what a talent he has got. It’s great for him to score early on. Hopefully, he can have a fantastic season for us.

“His biggest asset is his wonderful, wonderful balance. Couple that with close control and ability. But tactically tonight was most pleasing for me because he’s only had two days prep on how we wanted to press and be without the ball. He’s done that fantastically well for a young player."

If Rak-Sakyi continues his fine form in League One, then he could be the man to replace Wilfried Zaha in Vieira's side last season.

It has been widely reported that the Palace icon will leave Selhurst Park next summer when his contract ends, having made 435 appearances for the Eagles, contributing 87 goals and 73 assists.

It would be fitting for another academy prospect to fill Zaha's boots and if Rak-Sakyi's start at Charlton is anything to go by, then Vieira looks to have another special young talent on his hands.
