Crystal Palace could certainly do with some defensive recruits next season.

The likes of Gary Cahill, Scott Dann and Mamadou Sakho are all out of contract at the end of the current campaign, leaving just the likes of James Tomkins and Cheikhou Kouyate as options to play at the heart of the Eagles’ defence.

Whilst a couple of those out of contract players could be retained – Cahill being the most likely having played every minute of the last seven Premier League games – they still need more options.

One of those could be current on-loan Fulham man Joachim Andersen, who Palace are apparently interested in according to The Mail Online. The Dane could well be the perfect partner for Cahill at centre-back.

Despite his current employers having struggled this season and looking likely for a return to the Championship, Andersen has impressed.

He has already made 26 appearances for Scott Parker’s men in the Premier League during the current campaign, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.

Remarkably, Roy Hodgson’s Palace have kept just seven clean sheets in league play this season. Whilst those shutouts are not specifically the consequence of Andersen’s performances at the heart of defence, he has surely had a telling impact.

Meanwhile, having also captained the Cottagers on 14 separate occasions, the Dane’s leadership and organisation at the back have seen him praised.

Chief Football Writer at The Mirror, John Cross, hailed Andersen as “magnificent” following the Whites’ impressive 1-0 victory against Liverpool at Anfield.

It could be suggested then that Andersen is ready-made for another season in the top-flight of English football following his success with Fulham.

With depleted options and with the club in dire need of a centre-back arrival next season, he could certainly be the ideal arrival for Crystal Palace in the summer.
