Crystal Palace have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of FC Copenhagen defender Victor Nelsson.

What's the story?

According to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, Copenhagen won't stand in the 22-year-old's way if they receive a suitable offer as they're in need of the substantial windfall his departure would bring.

The report claims a fee of around £9 million is being muted for the highly-rated Nelsson, with fellow Premier League outfit Burnley also thought to be keen on acquiring the youngster's services.

Fans will be buzzing

It's set to be one of the biggest summers in Palace's history, with 14 players coming to the end of their contracts over the coming months and the departure of Roy Hodgson, leaving the club in a state of transition.

Key centre-backs Gary Cahill, Scott Dann and Mamadou Sakho are among the first-team stars set to become free agents, meaning several new faces will need to be brought to Selhurst Park by whoever succeeds the former England boss.

It's an unenviable task considering Steve Parish is unlikely to supply a sizeable transfer kitty over the upcoming window, meaning the Eagles' hierarchy are expected to be searching for potential bargains across the continent.

Therefore, a move for Nelsson makes sense for multiple reasons. Palace had the oldest squad in the Premier League last season, and it's an issue that the capital club will be looking to address over the summer.

The Denmark international has showcased his quality over the last couple of campaigns, both at home and in Europe.

While the 6 ft beast made 30 appearances throughout the recently concluded campaign, helping Jess Thorup's men to a third-place finish, he also starred in their Europa League knockout game against Manchester United in 2019/20.

Nelsson may not be a household name in England, but he certainly has the quality to make an impact at Palace, and with his age and price tag fitting the south London outfit's desired profile, he could well be one of the first names through the door at Selhurst Park and Eagles fans should be buzzing if he does arrive this summer.
