Crystal Palace: Patrick Vieira remains confident over Wilfried Zaha

It’s become an almost annual event for Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha to pine for a move away from his club in recent years, yet new manager Patrick Vieira remains confident about the forward’s future.

What’s the story?

The Ivory Coast international was the subject of intense interest from Arsenal back in the summer of 2019 and was linked with a move to either Tottenham Hotspur or Everton earlier in the early stages of the current window.

However, in an interview with Sky Sports (as relayed by the Evening Standard’s Jack Rosser), Vieira said that he is keen to keep Zaha at Selhurst Par over the coming months and that he has “no doubts” that he’ll be part of the club’s new era.

“I’m aware of Wilfried’s (situation) in the last couple of years, but we had a really good conversation, and I’m looking forward to working with him,” the French tactician said.

“He’s one of the most talented players in this league, and we don’t want to lose one of our best players. All the players are smart enough to see what the club is trying to build and where the club want to go – we’ve made some really exciting, young player signings, and I think that shows the direction the football club wants to take.

“I hope Wilfried will be part of that, I don’t have any doubt about that, and I am looking forward to working with him and trying to take Palace as high as we can.”

Will Zaha remain at Palace?

Yes, definitely!

Fans will be absolutely delighted

Palace are embarking on an exciting new chapter in the club’s history at this moment in time, with Roy Hodgson’s departure marking the end of a pragmatic and workmanlike four-year spell.

The arrival of former Nice boss Vieira as his replacement has seen several new, young and exciting additions to the first-team squad, while several ageing campaigners have followed Hodgson out the exit door in search of pastures new.

It’s set to be an intriguing transitional period for the south London outfit, and therefore, news that their star player is likely to stick around to help them through it will surely leave the club’s supporters absolutely delighted.

Zaha has been Palace’s go-to man for many seasons now and recorded his best goalscoring campaign last term, finding the back of the net on 11 occasions in 30 Premier League appearances.

His presence could make a monumental difference to the capital club’s fortunes in 2021/22 such is his influence over the Eagles, meaning the fans will be breathing a huge sigh of relief after hearing Vieira’s latest update.
