Crystal Palace will be a serious option for Conor Gallagher if he leaves Chelsea in this transfer window, insider Pete O'Rourke has claimed.

What's the word?

The England international had an outstanding loan spell with Patrick Vieira's side last season, but has earned mixed reviews following his return to Chelsea as the Blues' form suffered this season.

Although he has made 25 appearances this season, the 22-year-old may find his game time limited if Chelsea are successful in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo.

If he does push for a move, either on loan or permanently, O'Rourke has told Football FanCast that Palace would be a strong contender for his signature.

"I'm sure Crystal Palace would feel that they would have an advantage over their other Premier League rivals if Conor Gallagher was to leave Chelsea.

"He's obviously had a very successful loan spell at the club last year, and did seem to really enjoy working under Patrick Vieira, and Patrick Vieira has never hidden his admiration for the midfielder as well.

"I'm sure they will be right up there in the mix for Conor Gallagher if he does end up leaving Chelsea."

A bigger role

Gallagher's output this season has massively dropped from his time at Palace, with just one goal and one assist this campaign compared to eight goals and five assists during his time at Selhurst Park, when he was labelled as "absolutely class".

Vieira described him as a "joy" to work with during their time together, and if he does leave Chelsea to take up a bigger role elsewhere, then he may jump at the chance to move back to Palace, where he is clearly highly regarded.

There is little indication just yet that he wants away from Chelsea, but given their heavy spending, there could yet be outgoings in this transfer window.
