Crystal Palace look to have acted on their interest in Galatasaray right-back Sascha Boey, with the latest reports suggesting that Patrick Vieira's side have now submitted a bid for the 22-year-old.

Palace were linked with the young defender ahead of Christmas, with Vieira no doubt looking to recruit at right-back given he has alternated between Nathaniel Clyne and Joel Ward in that position so far this campaign, and both are approaching the end of their careers.

According to Turkish news outlet Star, the Eagles have now submitted a €16m (£14m) bid for Boey, who has caught the eye with his performances in the Super Lig since his move from Dijon in 2021.

The report suggests that Galatasaray are understandably keen to keep hold of Boey but the promise of Premier League football might just turn the youngster's head and given the obvious need for reinforcements at right-back, Vieira should push hard to bring him to Selhurst Park this month.

Should he arrive in south London, he could prove to be a significant upgrade on Clyne in Vieira's side.

The former Liverpool man has struggled for consistent form so far this campaign, averaging a shocking 6.27 rating from WhoScored for his performances in the top flight, with the 31-year-old culpable once again on Wednesday night in the 4-0 thrashing against Tottenham Hotspur.

Boey, meanwhile, has averaged a superb 7.26 rating from WhoScored for his performances in Turkey's top flight so far this campaign, contributing two assists in 14 appearances.

While it is difficult to compare Turkish and English football, Boey also leads Clyne for tackles (3.1 vs 1.3), interceptions (1.6 vs one) and clearances (1.9 vs 1.5) per game this season, which suggests that he is a far more adept defensive right-back.

Journalist Zach Lowy was full of praise for the young defender during his time at Rennes when Celtic were showing an interest in bringing him to Scotland, dubbing him a "talented" right-back.

The right side of defence is clearly a problem area for Vieira and recruiting an impressive youngster such as Boey would surely go some way towards improving their recent poor performances, so the French manager should definitely look at bringing his compatriot to Selhurst Park before the end of the transfer window.
